Steve Mendive is sent flying by an ornery bull as a crew attempts to guide corralled wood bison into chutes for handling and disease testing at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center Wednesday March 18, 2009 in Portage, Ak. Mendive, who was shaken up and scratched, decided he was okay and got back to work. About 80 of the animals underwent testing this week as the state prepares to release the animals and restore wild populations to Alaska, where they roamed until disappearing sometime over the last few hundred years. These wood bison were imported from Canada.
