DURHAM, NC (April 28, 2008) – The National Press Photographers Association is pleased to announce that Getty Images photojournalist John B. Moore will be a keynote speaker at NPPA’s 2008 Convergence '08 at the Downtown Marriott in Louisville, KY, on May 30 and 31, 2008. Moore was named Photojournalist of the Year (Large Market) in NPPA’s annual Best Of Photojournalism contest, the largest photojournalism contest in the United States. On April 24, 2008, Moore was also awarded the prestigious Robert Capa Gold Medal from the Overseas Press Club of America.

Moore’s award-winning Best Of Photojournalism portfolio included his stunning coverage of the assassination of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and a heartbreaking photograph from Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day. In that photograph, a grieving Mary McHugh stretched prone on her slain fiancé’s grave, a soldier killed in battle in Iraq. Moore will be presented with his Best Of Photojournalism awards on May 31 during NPPA's annual Honors & Recognition ceremony, which wraps up Convergence '08 in Louisville

“The NPPA is so excited and grateful to have John Moore fly in and speak to our members at Convergence '08. We always strive to bring in the very best and brightest in the field of visual journalism to speak at this event and John is clearly one of those professionals,” said Jim Straight, executive director of NPPA. “Add in all the other leaders and visionaries that we have in the program and Convergence '08 is shaping up to be the visual journalism event of the year.”

“Getty Images is delighted to support the 2008 NPPA Convergence which honors many of the world's great photojournalists, including John Moore, who capture the important events of our time for global media audiences,” said Pancho Bernasconi, Getty Images director of news photography. “Getty Images is deeply committed to excellence in news imagery, as we believe that the power of the still image is unequalled in its ability to evoke emotion, reveal truth, and lodge events in our collective memory.”

NPPA’s Convergence '08 is a two-day educational event that provides professionals an opportunity to learn from the leaders and visionaries in visual journalism. In addition to Moore’s keynote address, NPPA is proud to welcome 2008 Pulitzer Prize-winner Michel du Cille of The Washington Post; Best Of Photojournalism Photographer of the Year (Small Markets) Denny Simmons of the Evansville Courier & Press; Ernie Crisp Television News Photographer of the Year Scott Jenson from KTUU-TV in Anchorage, AK; Mark Biello of CNN; and Kinsey Wilson, the executive editor of USA Today.

That same week in Louisville, NPPA will hold its critically-acclaimed Multimedia Immersion (from May 27 through May 30), an intense four-day workshop where participants get hands-on training in audio, video, editing, and Web presentation from some of the top names in multimedia journalism.
