Job Cuts Hit Star Tribune & KSTP-TV in Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (December 5, 2008) – Today's journalism layoff news comes out of Minnesota where the Star Tribune has told staff that 25 or more newsroom jobs will be cut through buyouts or layoffs, and KSTP-TV staffers have learned that 18 newsrooms jobs at the television station are being eliminated.
Cuts at the ABC affiliate station are expected to be announced today, Friday, during an all-staff meeting, the Star Tribune reports. The paper says investigative reporter Kristi Piehl, an Emmy Award-winning journalist, is among those known to be leaving. The cuts include photojournalists, producers, and technicians, the Star Tribune said.
The Star Tribune is cutting $30 million from its operating budget, they said, which includes $20 million in concessions from unions.
