Poynter Offers "Photojournalism With A Difference"
ST. PETERSBURG, FL (January 22, 2009) – Kenneth F. Irby, the visual journalism group leader and director of diversity programs for The Poynter Institute for Media Studies, invites visual journalists to participate in "Photojournalism With A Difference" on February 22-27, 2009, at Poynter.
"Storytelling through photojournalism has never been a more essential skill," Irby said. "In a multimedia newsroom, it's critical to know how to find and present photographic narratives. Here's an opportunity to sharpen your skills at capturing the "decisive moment" with the camera and produce more compelling stories."
Online applications are being accepted through January 21.
Other faculty in addition to Irby will include Poynter's Regina McCombs, faculty for virtual teaching, and Mona Reeder, a staff photographer for The Dallas Morning News. Invited faculty also includes David Gilkey, a photojournalist/video producer for National Public Radio.
Irby says that attendees will learn how to identify good ideas, develop meaningful documentary stories and publish them across platforms; to develop your ability to spot photographic potential in every news story; and to build skills essential for finding authentic voices in photographic coverage. And the sessions will examine the many ways that still documentary photography is being produced and presented in the digital age. Irby says that the seminar is ideal for print and online photojournalists, visual editors, writers, designers, producers and reporters involved with photographic reporting.
