CHICAGO, IL (January 13, 2009) – It's certainly a first for Chicago, and maybe for the nation: today the Chicago Tribune announced they're going to start printing the paper as both a broadsheet (for home delivery) and as a tabloid (for weekday street sales to commuters).
Except for headlines, photos, and caption differences to fit in the tabloid format, the content in the two issues be the same the same, Tribune said.
The new tabloid Tribune will be sold for .75 cents. The Tribune's competition on the street, the Sun-Times, also a tabloid, sells for .50 cents per issue. The new Trib tab will not be available for home delivery, the paper says.
The Sun-Time's response?
"Sure, size matters, but so is what you do with it," Sun-Times spokesperson Tammy Chase told the Tribune.
