8th Annual UNC Multimedia Bootcamp In May

 

CHAPEL HILL, NC (January 16, 2009) – The 8th annual University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Multimedia Bootcamp will be May 17-22, 2009, and Patrick Davison says the workshop is "a one-stop opportunity to re-tool and gain skills needed to be competitive."

"This intensive, weeklong workshop is designed for professional journalists who want to explore various forms of multimedia storytelling and how they work together to create a cohesive package," Davison said. He's the director of documentary projects and an associate professor of visual communication at UNC.

The Multimedia Bootcamp includes training sessions on project planning, audio and video collection, and editing, Flash animation and production, and ActionScript basics for journalists. Participants will go hands-on to collect and edit content, which they will use to produce a full-featured multimedia presentation. Davison said that while the workshop draws news photographers and visual journalists, reporters, Web developers and others new to multimedia are welcome.

"The UNC Multimedia Bootcamp is a great place for news photographers to hone their skills in multimedia. We've trained dozens of photojournalists in real-world applications that they can put to work immediately in the newsroom," Davison said.

The workshop is sponsored by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and all sessions are taught in state-of-the-art labs in the school's Carroll Hall on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Tuition is $1,200, which includes instruction with industry leaders, use of a dedicated Mac workstation, access to the latest A/V equipment and software, lunch daily and the opening dinner.
