Medical Fund, Camera Sale, Set To Help Photojournalist Jim Daniels
PORTLAND, ME (February 9, 2009) – The friends of photojournalist Jim Daniels have set up a medical fund to help with the expenses associated with his battle against brain cancer, and are helping to sell Daniels' new Nikon D3.
"Jim is currently doing okay after his first round of radiation and he has a very positive outlook," Portland photographer Stretch Tuemmler told News Photographer magazine today.
"He's got a ton of support. Everyone loves Jim. My hope is that you can spread the news to the NPPA community." Tuemmler hopes that someone who hears the news might be interested in purchasing Daniels' new D3, which "has hardly been used. The strap is still in the plastic bag."
Tuemmler has the camera (pictured below) and anyone who is interested should contact him directly. "The capture count is 2,215, and $3,700 takes it," Tuemmler said. "All the money will go directly to Jim."

Tuemmler said that Daniels is fighting "an aggressive brain cancer" and that it's a difficult time for the photographer right now. Daniels was at one time a staff photographer at The Providence Journal, where he worked for photography director Chip Maury, and the photographer won acclaim in 1988 for a series he shot on adoption in Central America. Today Daniels lives in Portland, ME, with his wife Mary, an acupuncturist.
