DURHAM, NC (February 19, 2009) – Online voting is now open for NPPA members in Regions 6, 8, and 10 to elect a Regional director and associate director. The candidates' biographies, statements, and headshots can be see here.
The election for these even-numbered Regions (which were originally set take place in November 2008 but were postponed to fill candidate slots) runs through March 17. Balloting for Regional elections takes place through the member’s only area of the NPPA Web site.
In this round of voting, members will vote online to elect a Regional director (who serves on the NPPA’s board of directors) and an associate director (who acts as regional membership officer and as a stand-in for a board member who is unable to attend the annual June board and business meeting).
Candidates for election include Jim Michalowski, Greg Smith, Josh Weiss, and Mike Hotz in Region 6; Kevin Martin and Tim Jones in Region 8; and Sandy Huffaker and Timothy Hart in Region 10.
Regional directors serve as voting members of the NPPA’s board and meet annually to approve the organization’s budget, make other decisions regarding the governance of the NPPA, and hear reports from the various committee’s and programs. Associate directors serve as the regional membership officer, dealing with the day-to-day needs of the members in the Region and they are designated as the stand-in for the Regional director if needed. Associate directors are not required to attend the annual meeting and may only vote if they are in attendance as proxy for the regional director.
Members with questions about the election can contact NPPA national secretary Denise McGill at secretary@nppa.org.
