Getty's New "Grants For Good" Benefit Photographers, Non-Profits
SEATTLE, WA (February 20, 2009) – Getty Images has announced two new "Grants For Good" of $15,000 each that will be awarded to two photographers who are "creating compelling imagery to raise awareness about the issues and work of a non-profit they admire."
There is a deadline of April 15 for applications.
The "Grants For Good" funds are in addition to Getty's other grant program, the Getty Images Grants for Editorial Photography.
Getty says winning photographers can use the money to support their work for a non-profit agency, or they give the money to the non-profit and do the photography for them as a volunteer.
"These grants enable more photographers to produce extraordinary imagery for important causes, supporting non-profits, NGO’s, professional associations and charities," Getty vice president of imagery Andrew Saunders said in a press release.
"The growth of our grant program is a testament to Getty Images’ ongoing commitment to making tangible, positive contributions in the world through the power of imagery."
Judges who pick the winners will include Christopher Phillips, of the International Center of Photography, and Lesley Martin of the Aperture Foundation.
The winners will be announced at the Cannes Advertising Festival in June. Getty says the winners will have access to Getty's photo editors, producers, and art directors during the execution of their projects, and their work will be displayed on Getty's Web site.
To apply, photographers are asked to submit a short written proposal outlining the shoot plan, a supporting portfolio of work, their resume, a profile of the non-profit with whom they will partner, and a statement of the organization’s support for the application. All materials are to be submitted digitally through the new Getty Images Grants Web site, www.gettyimages.com/grants.
