Stephanie Sinclair Joins VII Agency

 

NEW YORK, NY (March 4, 2009) – Photojournalist Stephanie Sinclair has been elected by the members of VII to be a co-owning member of the picture agency, they announced today.

"Stephanie Sinclair is a terrific addition to the VII family," VII member Ron Haviv said in the announcement. "Her motivation, drive, and passion for stories that we want to know about will keep her at the top of the profession for years to come."

Sinclair has focused her work on global themes of human rights that include self-immolation in Afghanistan, female circumcision, and the culture of child marriage.

Sinclair won the 2008 Alexia Foundation Grant for professionals, and she was a VII Network contributing photographer based for a while in Beirut, Lebanon. From 2003 to 2007 she worked for Corbis in Iraq and Lebanon, and from the 1998 to 2003 she was a staff photographer at the Chicago Tribune. She graduated from the University of Florida in 1998 with a bachelor of science degree in journalism and mass communications and she also studied fine art photography there. In 1993, she studied French at the University of Paris-La Sorbonne, and while in college she had internships at the Miami Herald, the Arizona Republic, the St. Petersburg Times, and the Detroit Free Press. In 1999, Sinclair founded Photobetty.com.

In addition, VII has invited Australian photojournalist Ashley Gilbertson to join VII Network for the exclusive distribution and resale of his pictures. Based in New York City now, Gilbertson has been shooting primarily for The New York Times since 2002, covering Afghanistan and Iraq.

VII has also announced the addition of three photographers to the VII Mentor Program. Don McNeill Healy (of Dublin), Anastasia Taylor-Lind (of Britian), and Giulio di Sturco (of New Dellhi and Milan) will have as mentor's VII's members John Stanmeyer, Ron Haviv, and Franco Pagetti.
