Call for Entries: Women In Photojournalism Juried Exhibit

 

DURHAM, NC (April 28, 2009) – The National Press Photographers Association's 2009 Women In Photojournalism Conference committee has issued a Call For Entries for this year's juried photographic exhibit, with the theme for this year's contest being "Celebrating Our Past, Looking Toward The Future."

WIPC's Pat Holloway says that the photographs can represent "your definition of the theme through people, places, actions, or a milestone."

A reminder that submissions must be by women photojournalists only, and single images (no essays). The photographs must have been taken between July 1, 2008, and April 25, 2009. Deadline for entry is 12:00 midnight EST on May 1, 2009.

Up to 50 winning images will be selected by judges including up to two photographs for the "Best Of Show" winners. Winning photographers will be contacted and asked to submit an exhibit quality 14x18" print matted for the opening reception on June 11, 20009, in Las Vegas at NPPA's Convergence '09 event. Copyright holders retain their rights to the photograph by NPPA will have the right to publish winning pictures in News Photographer magazine or on the NPPA Web site for conference or promotional purposes.

Women photographers can submit their pictures by going to the Convergence '09 Web page and clicking on the link to enter the Women In Photojournalism contest. Holloway says the link will log-in will automatically take the user to an entry form, and the process must be done for each single image a user wants to enter for competition.

Image files need to be 200-300 DPI, JPEG files, and must include the following information under the Photoshop FILE INFO or IPTC fields for each image: 1) Caption Field: image title followed by complete caption (DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR NAME HERE). 2) Caption Writer: your initials. 3) Headline: image title. 4) Byline: photographer’s name. 5) Credit: your affiliation or school. 6) Source: copyright holder.

Payment must be made with a credit card at the time of print submission, Holloway said. There is an entry fee of $12 USD per image for professionals, $8 USD per image for students.

The NPPA Women In Photojournalism Conference is June 10, 2009, and the juried exhibit will be June 11, 2009, at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, NV.
