DURHAM, NC (August 14, 2009) – The NPPA Awards and Recognitions committee is proud to announce the Ohio University student chapter as the NPPA Outstanding Student Chapter for 2009, Awards & Recognitions Committee chair Tony Overman announced.
"The chapter earned the award for its outstanding participation with more than 80 members," Overman said. "Their campus involvement includes regular meetings, educational workshops, guest speakers, social events, and newly created activities like the student mentor program, a chapter booth at freshman orientation, and a member-exclusive Facebook group."
Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Marcy Nighswander of Ohio University's School of Visual Communication (VisCom) is the winning chapter's faculty adviser.
OU's VisCom students have won the top student chapter honor before, in 2006 (shared with Syracuse University), and again in 2007 and 2008.
Due to an oversight the Outstanding Student Chapter award was not announced in June in Las Vegas when NPPA's other annual honors were announced during the yearly banquet.
