Austin Premier Tonight Of Eddie Adams Documentary

AUSTIN, TX (October 28, 2009) – "An Unlikely Weapon: The Eddie Adams Story," a documentary about the life of the Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist who shot probably the most iconic war photograph of all time, makes its Austin premier tonight during a free screening at the Blanton Auditorium at the University of Texas.

The movie is presented by the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at the University of Texas at Austin.

Last month, on the eve of the fifth anniversary of his death, Adams' extensive photographic archive was donated to the Briscoe Center by the photographer's widow, Alyssa Adams.

"The film is an intimate portrayal of Eddie Adams," Briscoe Center executive director Dr. Don Carleton said, "whose images document some of the most significant events and people in recent world history."

The free screening at the Blanton begins at 6:30 p.m. CST and following the film, Alyssa Adams will be joined by Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist David Hume Kennerly and filmmaker Cindy Lou Adkins as the three make remarks and take questions.

An exhibit of Adams' photographs will be on display at the Briscoe Center's Sid Richardson Hall until January 16, 2010.
