Kalish Workshop Deadline Is May 15
DURHAM, NC (January 12, 2010) – Kalish Workshop director Scott Sines is reminding NPPA members and all visual journalists that the application deadline for the 21st edition of the venerable visual editing workshop is May 15, 2010.
"From June 4 through 8, 2010, we’ll offer hands-on training in cross-platform and multimedia skills from a faculty of Emmy and Pulitzer Prize-winning visual editors," Sines said. "The faculty will include Brian Storm, Geri Migielicz, Sue Morrow, Randy Cox, Kenny Irby, and other industry experts. We work hard, and we play hard, and the registration fee is only $500."
The Kalish Workshop is generously hosted by Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
Sines says those who are not familiar with the Kalish and want to know more about it can hear testimonials from past participants online here, and see samples of the work they did at the workshop.
The Kalish is targeted toward visual editors who are, or who aspire to be, assignment editors, line editors, or producers. Anyone who plays a substantial role in determining the visual report for their publication – including picture editing, multimedia, and design – will benefit from the Kalish. Registration is $500 ($100 at time of registration with the balance due when participation is confirmed).
The workshop is named after Stan Kalish, who was an innovative Milwaukee Journal picture editor from 1937 until 1950.
