White House Photography, From LBJ To Obama

 

AUSTIN, TX (January 5, 2009) – For those with a keen interest in the behind-the-scene view of what goes on in the Oval Office and White House in the lives of American presidents, an upcoming event at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library's Auditorium at the University of Texas in Austin will be a special evening.

Four former presidential photographers will share their perspectives on life in the White House during the administrations of presidents Gerald Ford, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Lyndon B. Johnson, as well as the photographs that came from the historic inauguration of President Barack Obama.

Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist David Hume Kennerly will talk about covering his boss, President Ford, as well as being available to sign copies of his most recent book, Barack Obama: The Official Inauguration Book. Kennerly and Robert McNeely, President Clinton's photographer, who will also be one of the evening's speakers, worked on the new Obama book together.

Photojournalist David Valdez will speak about his years covering President George H.W. Bush, and Eric Draper will address his years covering President George W. Bush.

The evening will also include a special guest, Frank Wolfe, who was one of LBJ's White House staff photographers.

"Behind The Lens: White House Photography From LBJ To Obama" will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. CST at the LBJ Library's Auditorium at the University of Texas at Austin.

Kennerly and McNeely will sign copies of their book before the event, beginning at 5:15 p.m. CST, in the upper lobby of the auditorium. Books will be available for purchase that evening, or can be bought in advance at the LBJ Library's Museum Store.

The evening is being hosted by the LBJ Library and Museum's new executive director, presidential historian Mark Updegrove.

Admission is free but tickets are required. General admission tickets will be available beginning January 11 at the LBJ Library's Information Desk between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. CST.
