National Press Photographers Foundation Announces $16,500 In Scholarships
DURHAM, NC (February 1, 2010) – The National Press Photographers Foundation Inc. will award seven $2,000 scholarships in 2010 including the new Jimi Lott Scholarship, NPPF treasurer Frank Folwell has announced.
The new $2,000 scholarship in memory of Jimi Lott of the Seattle Times is in addition to seven $2,000 scholarships NPPF will award in 2010, Folwell said. Lott died in 2005 at the age of 52.
"The application process is all digital and streamlined. Undergrads can make one application for five scholarships. Graduate students can make one application for three scholarships. NPPF's new Web site has a downloadable [PDF] application form."
NPPF scholarships are awarded to encourage those with the talent and dedication to photojournalism and who need financial help to continue their studies. These awards are directed toward those studying full-time or returning to college.
The new NPPF Web site is online at www.nppf.org.
"Pictures entered in NPPA Best of Photojournalism or CPOYi can be entered without modification," Folwell said.
The deadline for applying is March 1, 2010.
The National Press Photographers Foundation Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization associated with the National Press Photographers Association, is charged with advancing press photography through education and awarding scholarships and fellowships to deserving individuals who have demonstrated ability or promise in the field of photojournalism.
