NPPA Launches Free iPad Application On Apple's iTunes

DURHAM, NC (April 2, 2009) – As Apple's App Store for the iPad goes public today, it does so with a new free iPad App from the National Press Photographers Association.

NPPA launched its first iPhone and iPod Touch App in iTunes last December, and developer Greg Anderson who made NPPA's first App has been building the organization's iPad application since the iPad's software developer kit became available.

NPPA's free iPad App offers the same functionality as its iPhone and iPod Touch App but has been optimized for the iPad's bigger screen and incorporates some new features, such as splash screens of winning images from NPPA's recently-judged Best Of Photojournalism 2010 contest.

NPPA's first App for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch is online now on iTunes at http://itunes.com/apps/nppa.

The NPPA App allows users to view a live feed of news stories from NPPA's Web site as well as access many of NPPA's most popular member features and services. In addition to news stories and the interface with www.nppa.org, users can access member services, NPPA's calendar of upcoming workshops, seminars, and educational events, and the organization's monthly and yearly contests and professional development opportunities.

Through the NPPA App users can also reach NPPA exclusive features such as the just-updated "Find A Photographer" and NPPA's online Professional Mentoring program for student photojournalists.

NPPA's App was developed by Anderson, a senior software systems engineer for The Seattle Times, who also developed the Times' iPhone App and news reader.

Advertising banners displayed on NPPA's Apps are managed by The Townsend Group of Bethesda, MD, the advertising agency for NPPA's monthly magazine, News Photographer. Established by Holly Townsend in 1983, NPPA's national advertising sales and sponsorships are managed by Townsend's Stephanie Holland.
