Arizona Photojournalist Randy Reid, 49
SCOTTSDALE, AZ (May 21, 2010) – Photojournalist Randy Reid, who was a staff photographer for more than two decades at the Arizona Republic and the Phoenix Gazette, died May 19 after a long battle with cancer. He was 49.
In 1993 Reid was the Arizona Photojournalist of the Year. A native of Salina, KS, he was a graduate of Arizona State University's photojournalism program. In 2008 he was among those who were laid off or who took buy-outs from the Republic in a late-year round of personnel cuts.
Reid is survived by his his longtime partner Jacqueline Noordijk, as well as his parents, Tom and Marcia, and two brothers, Ron and Robert.
In "Behind The Lens," the photography blog of the Arizona Republic, staff and former staff members share their memories of the popular and outgoing photojournalist, and coworker Connie Cone Sexton recalled Reid's career in "A Life Remembered."
