David Bebber Wins UK Press POY Title
LONDON (June 30, 2010) – David Bebber of The Times has been named the UK Press Photographer of the Year in The Press Photographer's Year 2010 contest, in association with the British Press Photographers Association.
Judges at the National Theatre picked Bebber from the 7,713 photographs entered by 317 photographers in 20 countries in this year's competition. From the contest's images more than 100 pictures will be published in the annual book, "The Press Photographer's Year."
Daniel Berehulak of Getty Images won first place in the News Portfolio of the Year category, and David Levene won for Live News. Kieran Doherty of Reuters won for News, and Dylan Martinez of Reuters won for Features.
Kiernan Dodds of Panos won first place for Photo Essay, and Cathal McNaughton won for Portraits. Oli Scarff of Getty Images won for The Arts, and Mark Stewart won for Royalty & Entertainment.
Laurence Griffiths of Getty Images won first place for Sports Folio of the Year, and Clive Mason of Getty won for Sports Specialist Folio of the Year. Gareth Copley of Press Association won for Sports Action, Sean Smith of The Guardian won for Sports Features, and Clive Rose of Getty won for Winter Olympic Singles.
Judges for the contest were Roger Allen, Rosie Hallam, Neil Turner, and Tom Jenkins.
