Contracts
-
What will I be paid?
-
Will I own the image?
-
How many times can my client use my images?
-
What happens if the assignment is cancelled at the last minute?
-
Can my client sell my photographs to a third party? Can they put the image on the wires?
-
What happens if someone sues over the photograph? Who is liable if that happens?
Answers to all of these questions can be found in the contract, which is why it is so critical to understand contract language and be aware of contracts that you sign. Contracts should be negotiated and agreed on before the assignment is confirmed. A good contract protects you. Remember that a contract provided by a client is designed to protect the client.
