John joined ESPN in June of 2003 and now works as a national correspondent for the network’s Enterprise Unit, contributing long-form stories primarily to the program Outside the Lines. John also periodically contributes features and daily reports to Sportscenter and other ESPN studio shows and is a frequent writer for ESPN.com.
His work at ESPN has been honored by numerous organizations, including an Emmy nomination and a Dick Schaap Excellence in Sports Journalism Award from the Center for the Study of Sport in Society.
Prior to joining ESPN, John ran his own production company for more than a year and was a regular contributor to the National Geographic Channel. His feature reports on scientific achievements, culture and the environment aired on the daily news magazine National Geographic Today.
Before scratching out a living as a freelance reporter/producer, John worked for roughly twelve years as a reporter in local television, where much of his time was spent at strong NPPA stations: KSTP-TV in the Twin Cities, WBFF in Baltimore and WHTM in Harrisburg, PA.
A graduate of the Workshop in 1998, John has received an Edward R. Murrow Award for feature reporting, eight Regional Emmy Awards and dozens of other honors from various organizations for his stories in local television.
When not on the road for ESPN, John works out of his house just outside of Philadelphia, where he lives with his wife, Ellen, and his kids: 4-year-old Jack and 6-year-old Krystyna.
