What to Expect
The NewsVideo Workshop is a week long, intense immersion into the world of moving pictures and sound. You will spend 12 – 16 hours each day learning from a faculty of more than 20 nationally- and internationally-recognized, award-winning journalists, including Bob Dotson and Darrell Barton. These two alone have 9 Emmy Nominations, 4 Emmy Wins, 2 Photographer of the Year Awards, and 1 Sprague Award among them.
Topics covered at the 2010 NewsVideo Workshop included:
- Storytelling
- Lighting
- Composition
- Audio
- Editing
- The Reporter's Perspective
- Live Shots
- Sports
- News Management
- New Technology
- …and more topics that apply to video and audio, anywhere, anytime
No matter your experience level, you will be attending all formal sessions, receive one-on-one critiques, and get the chance to network with faculty and peers. If you come as a Shoot and Edit attendee, you’ll shoot on site and get immediate feedback, complete with the deadline pressure often faced in real life.
Participants attend all the same classes, but without the pressure.
If you’re new to video, you will build a solid foundation of technical and storytelling skills. More experienced photojournalists, prepare to fine-tune your writing, shooting, editing and production skills. Bring an open mind, a willingness to learn new skills, and energy to make it through the week.
Why Should You Attend?
The NewsVideo Workshop's mission is to teach upcoming and working photojournalists, editors, reporters and producers tricks and techniques to keep storytelling fresh, compelling and alive. You'll leave with the tools you need to be the best in this fast, stressful and difficult environment. And you'll realize that indeed this is the best job in the world.
It's a week of intense learning, powerful critiques, and unparalleled networking. The NPPA NewsVideo Workshop changes lives... Change yours now
