Television NewsVideo Workshop

Dave Wertheimer

In 1987 Dave Wertheimer paid his own way to the NPPA NewsVideo Workshop as a Shoot and Edit Participant. Armed with a RCA TK-76 connected via a BNC to a JVC 3/4" deck his life changed. That one week in March so long ago set in place a chain of events that changed Dave from being just a cameraman/editor, to an involved Storyteller and Teacher.

Since 1993 Dave has been on the faculty of the NPPA NewsVideo Workshop, the last 8 years as Co-Director. Dave has also been very involved in the NPPA as a speaker at countless regional and national seminars including hosting the first ever Airborne Seminar and the 2002 Convention. Dave also produced the NPPA live shot safety informational tape "Look Up and Live".

Since 1979 Dave Wertheimer has worked all over the country at 14 different stations. Since 1996 he has been the Photojournalism Manager at KSTP-TV in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Dave's assignments have taken him all over the world shooting, editing, producing and writing his own stuff. Dave's favorite place is on the road in the sat truck and is known as the "go to guy" on spot news.

Dave has over 70 awards for storytelling. From Emmys to SPJ to NPPA, Dave has won them all. But he is most proud of the 2 citations NPPA gave him for his dedication to the craft of Photojournalism and for teaching.

Dave has been married since 2000 and resides in Plymouth, Minnesota, with his wife Stacy and son Matthew who was born in 2001.
