Who Am I? (Why can't I take the fifth?) v. 2.3

I am someone whose biography changes daily. Originally from Dartmouth, Massachusetts, I like to think of myself as an East Coast person. I moved from Massachusetts, first to Maryland / Washington, DC to go to school, and finally to Denver, Colorado where I live and work now. It was culture shock, but five years in one place will take the edge off.

I began my career with Helical Post, Helical Productions. I did many things on many days, from running dubs or editing AVID indoors, to grip or soundman outdoors. Just to list a few. I learned many things there. The most important thing I learned at Helical is the religion of NPPA. My first workshop was 2000. I was back again in 2001 and 2002. With each year, my passion for the workshop grows. I believe the workshop helps lay the groundwork for your entire career. I owe a little bit of who I am today to the faculty, past and present, for inspiring me and showing me what's possible.

Presently, I am a tape editor for FOX 31 News. I like to think I introduce people to their neighbors every night at nine o'clock. Everyone's story is different, thank goodness. I always look for ways to set each person's story apart from the next. Personally, I learn more about our world everyday from people on tape and in the newsroom. That's what I love most about what I do, it contributes to who I am. Ultimately, luckily, my job teaches me more about me with every story I hear.

Who am I? I am not just a tape editor. I like to learn new things, I'd rather listen than talk, I know I've got the best job in the world. I don't know where to begin or where to end... I could be a bunch of things today and replace them all tomorrow. I am a storyteller. That's all I know for sure EVERYDAY.

I'm leaving my options open. (Tomorrow I'd be an auto customizer in Long Beach if I had my way).
