This exciting weeklong program is designed for experienced reporter/photographer teams.
During the week, teams will develop story ideas, research, report, shoot, edit and produce complete packages. Critiques and one-on-one sessions abound.
For more details, and workshop pictures, visit the official workshop website.
Participants will work under the direction of a core faculty that includes:
Exchanging the “I do’s” of TV photojournalism leads to a wedding of words, pictures and NAT sound. Reporter Tiffany Cochran (left) and photographer Richard Crabbe (center) from WXIA are duly wed. Overseeing the vows are Jonathan Malat (far left) and Boyd Huppert (far right) of KARE in Minneapolis.
During the week, students will participate in regular assignment meetings where their story ideas are evaluated and refined before the crews are sent out to commit their ideas to tape. Instructors will place great emphasis on developing a clear focus before the team starts shooting. Attendees will shoot, write and edit under real-world deadlines. Instructors will critique finished stories with an emphasis on offering constructive suggestions for improving the finished product.
Both reporters and photographers participate in most sessions; however, there are breakouts targeted specifically for photographers and for reporters.
Graduates will bring back a video record of the stories shown during the week. This tape serves as a great foundation for a mini workshop at your station.
