November workshop instructors

John Harrington

For over two decades, Washington DC-based photographer John Harrington has covered the world of politics, traveled internationally, and negotiated contracts along the way. A 2007 recipient of the United Nations’ Leadership Award in the field of photography, Harrington’s work has appeared in Time, Newsweek and Rolling Stone, and his commercial clients have included Coca-Cola, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Lockheed Martin, and the National Geographic Society. Harrington has produced three commissioned books for the Smithsonian and the second edition of his book Best Business Practices for Photographers, remains a best-seller. In the Fall of 2010 a retrospective of the first 20 years in the profession - Photographs from the Edge of Reality, revisited highlights of his career. John has lectured across the United States to events for the American Society of Media Photographers, Advertising Photographers of America, Professional Photographers of America, and the National Press Photographers Association. John concludes serving his second term as the President of the White House News Photographers Association in May of 2011.

No matter what genre or venue John is shooting in, the one constant throughout his career is his meticulous attention to the business side of photography. Whether shooting newsworthy stories, rock and roll or editorial, there can be no hesitation when it comes to the pricing and contracts you use in your business. Whether pets or Presidents, leading ladies or lead singers, for you to thrive in this industry, you need to have a solid understanding of the business side of your business.

Allen Murabayashi

Allen Murabayashi is the CEO and Co-Founder of PhotoShelter, Inc, an online service that provides website, archive and sales functionality to over 68,000 photographers worldwide. Allen has authored several free marketing guides for photographers, including The Photographer's SEO Cookbook, Blogging for Photographers, and Google Analytics for Photographers. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Eddie Adams Workshop, the leading student and young professionals’ photojournalism workshop. Allen was a founding employee of hotjobs.com. Born and raised in Honolulu, Allen is a graduate of Yale University. He flosses daily.

Amanda Sosa Stone

Amanda Sosa Stone is sought after from clients all around the world: Germany, Moscow, England, Mexico, Spain and her homeland, the United States. She works with clients from all genres, Commercial to Consumer. Style and genre does not hinder the consultant. She strives to make each client the best in their market. Amanda has made a name in the industry by always giving back to the community, through her popular blog postings on aPhotoEditor: Ask Anything (with Suzanne Sease) and through her upbeat personality. Having been in the industry for over a decade, Amanda has been blessed to see the changes in our industry.

Amanda Sosa Stone has a degree in photography from the Southeast Center for Photographic Studies. After working for for Foote, Cone & Belding (currently known as Draft FCB) for a number of years, Amanda decided to pursue a freelance-consulting career. She currently travels frequently giving seminars and consulting with photographers nationwide, and she continues to strive to raise the bar in our industry.

Additionally, Amanda worked as the contributing photo editor, on a book by Elyse Weissberg, which was released in Feb 2004. In 2009, Amanda co-Authored the book "The Photographer’s Survival Guide" with Suzanne Sease: http://thephotographerssurvivalguide.com/

Joining forces with Agency Access in May of 2010, Amanda is their in-house marketing and industry consultant as well as continuing to work with her own clients. She works with artists from around the world and across all backgrounds and genres and is loving every minute of it!

Amanda lives in Orlando, FL with her husband Jedidiah and son Liam. She loves to hike, canoe, drink tea and read. She is very active in her local community. Being the past board president and sitting on the current advisory board for for Dress for Success Greater Orlando. Amanda also acts as the Art & Programming Director for Snap! Orlando – a local 501(c). snaporlando.com.

Chip Litherland

Chip Litherland is a self-diagnosed color addict. Pretty much sums it up. He is also an award-winning photographer based in Sarasota, Florida, with over a decade of experience working in photojournalism. He is a regular contributor to The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and ESPN the Magazine, and his work has appeared in TIME, The Washington Post, The New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, among others. His work has been recognized by Pictures of the Year International, Best of Photojournalism, Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar, Southern Short Course, and the National Press Photographer’s Association. Chip is married to his lovely wife, Elaine, and they have two beautiful daughters together. He is on a 12-step-program to break the cycle of addiction to random gratuitousness, filling rectangles with extremely anal compositions, and the sick perversion to oversaturated color.
