A young boy flies his kite from the rooftop of a building while his neighbors compete in pigeon racing in Old Delhi, India. Rooftops all around Old Delhi are filled with men looking into the air screaming and waving their arms and sticks at flocks of pigeons flying around the skyline. This is known to the locals as kabootarbazi (pigeon racing). A popular sport in Old Delhi since the Mughal era where there is a race between two flocks of pigeons. The flock which travels the maximum distance and returns within a certain time to its owner is declared the winner. Owners also play another game where a flock will intercept another flock causing confusion hoping to pull some of the birds into their flock. Losing flock owners will have to pay to get their pigeons back. The season begins in December and ends in February.
