Photograph by Photojournalist of the Year, Matt McClain, The Washington Post | People are seen on a staircase leading into the dome of the United States Capitol on an overcast Tuesday, October 22, 2019, in Washington, D.C. United States diplomat William Taylor was expected to testify for the impeachment inquiry against President Donald J. Trump.

The official results of the 2020 NPPA Best of Photojournalism judging

Final-round BOP judging was held on Friday, February 28 through Sunday, March 1, at The Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. Twenty-two judges spread over five divisions concurrently judged thousands of entries in over 100 categories for Still Photojournalism; Video Photojournalism; Video Editing; Picture Editing; and Online Video, Presentation and Innovation.

Because the judging occurred simultaneously, is was recorded and will be compiled and accessible through the NPPA website starting at 8 a.m. (EST) on March 17.

Official results for all categories are listed here. The only exceptions are Station of the Year, Editor of the Year, NPPA Photojournalism Award for Reporting, and the Ernie Crisp Photographer of the Year. Those results will be announced at the Southeast Storytelling Workshop/NPPA Video Awards in Nashville, Tennessee, on June 20-21. The Still Photojournalism, Picture Editing and Online Awards will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, on April 18-19.

The winning entries of the Still and Video divisions are set to go live on the competition site at Noon (EST) on March 3. Online and Picture Editing divisions will be posted by the end of the week.

We are extremely grateful to Mark Johnson, our UGA liaison, and the 50 students he gathered. UGA sponsored NPPA Student Chapter members from RIT, Penn State, George Washington University and the University of Texas to support the judging over the weekend.

We would also like to thank our first-round and final-round judges and division chairs. We could not pull this off without your dedication to this profession.
