ATHENS, GA (December 4, 2018) – Eve Edelheit and Catherine Steward have been elected to the board of directors for the National Press Photographers Association in this year's elections. They will take office January 1 and will be officially sworn-in during NPPA’s annual board meeting at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia after the first of the year. They have been elected to serve three-year terms.
In addition to these board seats, three regional chair positions were filled. Annalisa Russell-Smith won the New York-Intl region, William Thomas Cain won the Mid-Atlantic Region and Caroline Couig won the New England Region.
Edelheit is an award winning independent photographer based in Tampa Bay, Florida. She was recently a staff photographer at the Tampa Bay Times for six years. She freelances for clients like The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Bloomberg and The Intercept. She has also photographed two cookbooks, Food + Art and Bella's in addition to working with chefs across Florida and covering events hosted by the James Beard Foundation.
Steward is a photojournalist for WTVF NewsChannel 5 in Nashville. In her time at WTVF, she has received six EMMYs and a national Edward R. Murrow Award for use of sound. Catherine was named NPPA TV Quarterly Contest Photographer of the Year for the West General region in 2012, and for the Central Top region in 2015. Originally from Palmer, Alaska, Catherine has previously worked for KTUU and KTVA in Anchorage. She has served as a judge for the NPPA Best of Photojournalism Television Editing contest and the White House News Photographers Association. Catherine has presented at several conferences including the NPPA Southeast Storytelling Conference and the Ignite Your Passion workshop.
In the coming weeks, the newly elected regional chairs will appoint associate chairs. They will also officially take office on January 1.
