Photography editor Jim Colton, who recently ended his long career as a photography editor at Sports Illustrated, has accepted the position of Photojournalist In Residence at North Carolina State University beginning in the Spring 2013 semester. It will be NCSU's first Photojournalist In Residence. Colton had another career before Sports Illustrated: he was hired to be the photography editor of Newsweek in 1977, and led the magazine's global photography efforts for more than 17 years.

Now that Newsweek will cease print publication at the end of December, morphing into a digital publication called Newsweek Global, Colton has written a very personal blog on his Web site looking back at the magazine's photojournalism history as well as his thoughts on where the magazine took a a series of wrong turns that led to its eventual demise.
