Support For Journalists Covering The Newtown Tragedy
The Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma has assembled an array of online tip-sheets on covering mass shootings, child trauma, and community tragedy which may be helpful to journalists who are covering the massacre in Newtown. Go to www.dartcenter.org. These include reporter-to-reporter advice on stories and news choices; editors' resources gleaned from previous incidents; and tip-sheets on self-care and trauma response for news teams.
In addition, for any journalists or teams on-site, the Yale University mental health team (which is providing support for the Sandy Hook community) has agreed to be available as a confidential resource for any journalist on the ground in Newtown covering this very upsetting story. Journalists can call Carrie Epstein, an experienced and top-level trauma clinician, at +1.917.716.6546.
