DURHAM, NC – The National Press Photographers Association is accepting nominations for candidates for its Board of Directors and for regional officers, NPPA national secretary Michael P. King announced today. The nominations period is open now and will remain open until October 31, 2012.
Two seats on the Board of Directors – currently held by Smiley Pool and Greg Smith – will be vacated at the end of the year. Pool and Smith are able to run for reelection, King said.
There are a total of six elected directors who are serving staggered, 3-year terms. According to NPPA's Bylaws, two board seats are up for election each November.
Additionally, NPPA members in even-numbered Regions 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 will choose their Regional Chairs and Associate Regional Chairs in an online election. These regional officers are elected every two years. Elections for even-numbered regions are conducted in even-numbered years, while elections for odd-numbered regions are conducted in odd-numbered years.
Members will be able to vote online for these positions at www.nppa.org during the entire month of November. Candidate bios and statements will be posted online so members may make informed choices.

To be eligible for election to the Board of Directors or for a regional office, an NPPA member must be an Professional or Student Member in good standing for at least one year prior to being nominated.
