Updated August 31, 2017: More photojournalists have joined this effort with American Reportage and the NPPA. With those additional donations, there will now be an additional five scholarships awarded, bringing the total to at least 11 new student memberships. The entry deadline has also been pushed to September 8, 2017 to accommodate this change. If you are interested in contributing to this program, you can contact Pete Marovich at [email protected].
American Reportage, the newly formed collective of documentary photojournalists, is sponsoring six new student memberships to the National Press Photographers Association.
The members of American Reportage strongly believe that as working professionals, they must encourage and support emerging visual journalists as they embark on their careers. In that spirit, they will pay for one-year NPPA student memberships to six people randomly selected from the applicants.
Students can apply at the American Reportage website. The deadline for applying is September 3, 2017.
The six sponsorships match the number of the American Reportage founders: Kathleen Flynn, Adria Malcolm, Pete Marovich, Justin Merriman, Brian Plonka and Jeff Swensen. Through the collective, they produce in-depth stories that amplify the voices of people and communities that may otherwise go unheard. As independent photojournalists, members are committed to doing the groundwork that leads to rich, thoughtful, and engaging content.
