The annual competition for eight $2,000 student scholarships from the National Press Photographers Foundation is now open. The application deadline is December 1, 2017.
Students are encouraged to start the application process now, even if they are continuing to develop a portfolio. That way, people listed for recommendations will get early notice from the application software. Students who enter early can also update their portfolios right up to the deadline.
“All entries are digital and our new online submission system allows editing or replacement of images,” said Dr. James Brown, NPPF scholarship chair.
The NPPF’s image preparation requirements for portfolios are the same as the guidelines for the University of Missouri’s College Photographer of the Year so students who entered CPOY can easily upload those files for the NPPF application. Brown said the NPPF application also requires captions on all files.
Graduating seniors and last-year graduate students are now eligible since awards will be made before graduation. NPPF scholarship judging results will be available in spring semester.
There are eight scholarships awarded, including scholarships for students specializing in multimedia and television journalism. See the complete list of awards here.
