Electronic Photojournalism Workshop 25th Anniversary Reunion Planned
DURHAM, NC (May 20, 2014) – Twenty-five years ago John Long, Bill Hodge, and John H. Cornell Jr., who now are all former NPPA presidents, launched an important and land-breaking NPPA event at Martha's Vineyard. They called it the Electronic Photojournalism Workshop. And now they are planning a 25th anniversary reunion this fall in Florida called "The Vision," held in conjunction with a virtual reunion which is set for October 4, 2014.
"We have come so far in a short time and your accomplishments need to be celebrated," Cornell said. "Were you there at the start of electronic imaging? Were you a faculty member, vendor, or participant in the workshop?" He asks, "Can you join us?"
When EPW was launched in 1989, Cornell and Hodge were NPPA past presidents and Long was the organiation's current president.
"It's time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of learning how to use the new electronic equipment under newsroom deadline conditions," Cornell said. "For those who want an in-person experience, come to Florida on the first weekend of October. Come to the Plantation weekend and enjoy the company of fellow EPW'ers. If you're coming to Florida, please let me know ASAP. You will need to fly to Tampa or Orlando."
Reservations are available at the Plantation Inn in Crystal River, FL, phone 800-632-6262. It's necessary to mention the Electronic Photojournalism Workshop for the discount. The rooms are Garden View with a King or Double for $103.00, Water View for $119. The rates are good until September 1.
Cornell says he will try to coordinate arrivals so groups can share the cost of a rental car.
Those who plan to attend should eMail him as soon as possible at firstname.lastname@example.org.
For those who cannot attend, Cornell says he plans to set up a virtual reunion on Saturday, October 4, 2014.
