COLUMBIA, MO (June 23, 2014) – Documentary photojournalist and filmmaker Eugene Richards has been named as one of seven recipients of the 2014 Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism.
The Missouri School of Journalism will award the medals this year to seven individuals and media organizations in print, digital and electronic journalism, photojournalism and advertising.
The 2014 medalists will be honored on campus in October, and they will present master classes on topics related to their areas of expertise to Missouri School of Journalism students and guests.
Medalists are selected by the faculty of the School on the basis of lifetime or superior achievement in journalism. The Missouri School of Journalism has awarded the Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism annually since 1930.
The other medalists this year are veteran editor Byron E. Calame; long-running NPR host Audie Cornish; The Guardian, a 193-year-old newspaper; advertising creative leader Steve Kopcha; the editorial staff of the Kyiv Post in Ukrainia; and the magazine WIRED.
