PARIS (April 12, 2016) – Dear Friends,

You haven't heard from me in a long time. That's because I am working against the most challenging deadline I have ever faced: my 100th birthday, on December 7th. I am working on a new book called "My Century," aimed at bringing those years to life for those who have not experienced them, and for the enjoyment of those who have. It is part autobiography, part history, based on extraordinary photographs. It will be a big book - the second draft is just over 600 pages, laid out like a magazine - pictures on every page.

This isn't a typical autobiography or a typical illustrated history book; it is a very personal look inside the world of photojournalism, beginning in the days before there was a TV in every living room, the days when people bought Life magazine to see the news. It continues through my years at Ladies' Home Journal, Magnum, The Washington Post, The New York Times and National Geographic.

I am forever grateful to the men and women who, often in grave danger, recorded the past 100 years in photographs. I am proud to have played a small part in their efforts. It's my hope that this book, bringing some of their most important work together in one place, with my stories of those times, will help bring a greater understanding of those years

Why am I writing to you about the book at this time?

I have discovered that producing a book of this nature is a very expensive proposition, way beyond my budget.

I am hoping that some of my friends, who understand the importance of this book, and what it means to me, may wish to participate.

My very best to you all,

John G. Morris
