April 10, 2020 - News photographers are on the front lines of every major disaster and the COVID-19 pandemic is no exception. But in addition to being at enormous personal risk as they bring vitally important information to the public, news photographers have been hit financially by canceled assignments, layoffs, furloughs and salary cuts as publishers and other clients scale back. We have created a relief fund to raise money to help those whose lives have been impacted.
How this will work: as fundraising increases, there will be an application process announced and a committee will be formed to review applicants and disperse funds. We will update information here on nppa.org and on NPPF site as this process develops over the next couple of weeks.
All donations are made through the National Press Photographers Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. Your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
We thank you sincerely for any help you are able to give during this difficult and uncertain time.
Lola Gomez shared her story on April 3, 2020. She was sent home to recuperate a couple of days later.
