Mid Sweden University Calls For 2014 Photojournalism Masters Students
SUNDSVALL, Sweden – The International Masters of Arts in Photojournalism program at Mid Sweden University (Mittuniversitetet) in Sundsvall has issued a Call For Applications for students who would like to begin their studies in the Fall of 2014.
The Masters of Arts in Photojournalism program is Scandinavia's first and only Masters program in Photojournalism.
Applications will be accepted between October 17, 2013-January 15, 2014. All nationalities may apply.
The two-year, international Master of Arts in Photojournalism program, taught in English, is unique within the European Union because of its breadth, length and depth. Its international focus is reflected in the composition of its student body — currently there are 14 nationalities from four different continents.
John Kimmich-Javier is the chair of the program. He says the program aims to promote and develop visual storytelling and the visual language of photojournalism for a rapidly changing media landscape, and to create a forum for research and debate about the current and future role of photojournalism. This is achieved through a balanced curriculum with relevant practical and theoretical courses during the first three semesters that prepare students for a semester-long Master Thesis consisting of a visual project, Kimmich-Javier says.
The Master is intended for those interested in developing skills to work as a photojournalist or picture editor, assume a leadership role in the profession or media industry, or pursue a career in the field of education.
Prerequisites include a university degree in photojournalism, photography, journalism or other relevant area of study and at least two years professional experience in a relevant area.
The Master was launched in 2012 and is housed in the university’s Department of Media and Communication Science, home of Sweden’s first and only Bachelor of Arts degree program in the subject of photojournalism. The Master program involves full-time studies on the Sundsvall campus during the first three semesters, and off-campus field work during the final term.
