ATHENS, GA (September 30, 2019) – The National Press Photographers Association is accepting nominations for candidates for its Board of Directors and Regional Chairs October 1 through October 15, 2019.
It will be the third election under procedures guaranteeing representation from the video/broadcast and still/print segments of our membership on the Board. Two seats on the Board of Directors currently held by Brent Lewis and Brad Smith will be vacated at the end of 2019. Lewis and Smith are eligible to run for reelection.
There are six elected directors serving staggered, three-year terms. Two seats are up for election each November. Under the current procedures, one open seat will be designated for a video/tv/broadcast representative, and the other for a still/newspaper/print representative. Candidates will declare their own designation. Candidates are entitled to submit a photograph and biographical material, which shall be posted on the NPPA website by the end of October.
To be eligible for the board of directors, a candidate must be an NPPA professional or student member in good standing prior to being nominated.
The election of directors is conducted by secret electronic ballot. Secret mail ballots are available upon request by to the national office at [email protected]. Ballots will be available to eligible voters on November 15. Completed electronic ballots must be submitted on or before November 30.
The Central, Northwest, and West Regions will also elect their regional chairs for three-year terms. To be eligible for election or appointment to a regional office, a member must be an NPPA Professional or Life Member in good standing in that region. The newly elected regional chairs will appoint associate regional chairs and local grassroots leaders in metro areas with high membership concentration.
Members will be able to vote online for regional chairs at nppa.org from November 15 through November 30, 2019. Candidate bios and statements will be posted by the end of October.
