NPPA Joins FAA Filings Supporting Drone Exemptions

DURHAM, NC (July 17, 2014) – The National Press Photographers Association has filed comments to the Federal Aviation Administration in support of petitions from a number of aerial photography and video production companies seeking exemptions from FAA rules to commercially operate small unmanned photography drones.

The petitions NPPA supports would allow for the motion picture and television industry to use small, unmanned aerial systems called "sUAS" devices, which weigh 55 pounds or less.

NPPA's Advocacy team also contributed to the analysis submitted along with the "News Media Coalition’s Comments in Support of Video-Production Companies’ Petitions to the FAA for Section 333 Exemption."
