San Francisco Bay Area sports photographer Brad Mangin likes getting to the game early – be it the games he shoots for clients like Sports Illustrated or Major League Baseball, or taking advantage of Internet marketing trends, or helping create online communities for his friends. By his own admission he was late to the camera phone craze among professionals and amateurs who were using photography sharing Web sites like The Best Camera, Hipstamatic, and Instragram. But it sure didn't take him long to catch up.
While the co-founder of SportsShooter.com makes the dubious claim that he was the last person on earth to get an iPhone, the rest of what he has to say is probably true. In a series of videos that make up this latest installment of NPPA's series on photographic innovators, Mangin shares the start of his 25-year career, his experiences with the early days of the Internet, and news about the publishing of his upcoming new book of Instagram photographs. For those of you who Tweet, you can find him at @bradmangin on Twitter. In the meantime, enjoy our package on Mangin beginning here.
