The results of the MNCC 2021 consisted of 247 entrants across nine national regions.
In a July story, we explained how we’re revamping our venerable clip contest, the Monthly News Clip Contest (MNCC), which has existed for decades — possibly since 1964.
National co-chairs are Sean Elliot and Pu Ying Huang. Elliot is director of photography at The Day in New London, Connecticut, and is a past two-term NPPA president and current chair of the ethics committee. Huang is the photo editor at The Texas Tribune.
The 2022 contest is on track for on-time completion. All but a few of the first two quarters of clips are complete and posted, and the third quarter is coming in.
“We’re actually in pretty good shape for judges,” Elliot wrote, “but I don’t want to discourage volunteers because in the new year we are going to be more selective in the choice of judges, looking for the judges who make the strongest effort in providing the kind of insightful and transparent commentary that makes the contest most useful to all the participants.”
If you want to help, please reach out to your region’s chair (the list is below) if you can give a few hours a month to the contest to provide feedback and commentary about what works and what doesn’t work in the contest entries. One of our goals is to create consistent monthly feedback to maintain high standards and conversations.
