The National Press Photographers Association is deeply disturbed by a video depicting a fictitious President Trump committing heinous acts of mass violence against journalists and others, placing him in a heroic light for doing so. We condemn this and every other depiction of violence against journalists. It can incite and inspire actual violence.
In real life, journalists have increasingly become victims of threats, attacks and murder for doing their jobs domestically and abroad. This rhetoric dehumanizes people who work tirelessly to report the truth. After years of fanning the “fake news” flames, President Trump, others in his administration, and all those in positions of power and politics must clearly rebuke this anti-press fury before more journalists are harmed.
