WEST CHESTER, PA (June 2, 2015) – Photographer Steve McCurry's assistant Bree DeStephano, 32, has been arrested and charged for theft and related offenses, according to Chester (PA) County district attorney Tom Hogan.

DeStephano is charged with stealing prints, books, and other items from McCurry and selling them for her own profit. The total value of the stolen items is $654,258.02, according to the district attorney's press release.

The theft has been going on since May 2012, Hogan says, and a second party, Brandon Donahue, was named as a conspirator in disposing of the stolen prints.

According to the charges DeStephano had prints shipped from McCurry's office in New York to her own studio. She's also charged with altering inventory records and print edition numbers. The stolen prints included some of McCurry's most famous images: Afghan Girl, Vertical Dust Storm, The Blue City, and Bengali Woman and Child. In addition to the prints, Hogan says, she sold stolen books as well through various aliases on multiple Web sites.

DeStephano was arrested today and arraigned before a judge, and bail was set at $250,000.

Hogan said Donahue will be arrested in Colorado.
