Years before the lifting of the ban on women in combat, Lynsey Addario saw the rapidly evolving role of female soldiers first-hand, through her cameras. Addario, a veteran of covering combat, was also one of four Times journalists held hostage by government soldiers for many harrowing days in Libya.
