NPPA Board Member Danese Kenon Named Deputy Photo Director, Tampa Bay Times

ATHENS, GA (April 19, 2016) - On the heels of winning two Pulitzer Prizes, The Tampa Bay Times has announced that veteran photojournalist Danese Kenon will join the staff to become their deputy director of photography for video and multimedia.

Kenon is coming from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, where she has been their assistant managing editor of visuals. While there, Kenon took lead roles in multimedia production and newsroom-wide projects.

Before Pittsburgh, Kenon was the assistant photography team leader at The Indianapolis Star, and she is the past chair of the National Association of Black Journalist’s Visual Task Force. Most recently Kenon served as a judge for the photography division for the Pulitzer Prizes. She is currently a board member for the National Press Photographers Association, and she’s an Innovator in Residence at West Virginia University.

Kenon was born in upstate New York. She earned her undergraduate degree in English and Mass Communications from Virginia State University and her master’s degree in Science in Photography from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University in New York While assuming a senior leadership role within the Times’ photography department, Kenon will lead their newsroom video and multimedia efforts as well as assuming a senior role in developing best practices for elevating visuals within the digital workspace.

Kenon will join the Times’ staff in mid-May.
