Raised in Shawnee, Kan., outside the sprawling 'tropolis of Kansas City, I attended Kansas State University and graduated with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. Throughout my career I worked in newspapers and magazines throughout the country. The last six years have been spent in Maryland.
