Joseph Philipson

Media Specialist, California State University Long Beach

Long Beach , California , United States

I was born and raised in a small town in the high desert of Southern California. I graduated with a degree in religious studies and moved to Hawaii to work teaching at a private elementary school. While there teaching, I bought my first camera and discovered the power of visual communication. I quickly learned to work a camera and soon fell in love with the idea of photography. It was then I decided to go back to school and study at RIT where I received a Bachelor in Fine Arts.

Although I was in the photojournalism program, I was exposed to a variety of photography. Including portraiture and editorial illustration, as well as small multimedia projects to long form documentary story telling.

Currently, I work at California State University of Long Beach in Los Angeles. Here, I am responsible for all campus related photography, including the production of three magazines with a circulation of 170,000, as well as motion for digital subscriptions.
