Photojournalist, Photography in the Present Tense
I was born and raised in England, but began my photojournalism career in Portland, OR stringing for The Associated Press. From there, I spent 12 years working as a staff photographer for daily papers in Oregon, Pennsylvania and New Mexico. Since then, I spent several years traveling through Central America, India and Europe as an independent documentary photographer. I have received various awards along the way including a Pulitzer Prize nomination, the Community Awareness Award from Pictures of the Year International and the Golden Light Award for documentary photography. Most recently I was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Deeper Perspective category of the International Photography Awards, and was a finalist in Critical Mass- Photo Lucida 2012.
My work has been featured in exhibits at Beloit College's Wright Museum of Art; Somerset House in London and the Panda Gallery in New York City. Most recently my photographs have appeared in The Oregonian, The Register-Guard, The New York Times, Geo Saison, Visual Anthropology Review, People Magazine, MSNBC.com, and with Zuma Press.
